Fostering a Lifelong Love of the Game

Frequently Asked Questions

When do practices start? Coaches typically reach out in early August (Fall) or early March (Spring). Practices run one night per week for about an hour. You can note your preferred night during registration, and we'll do our best to accommodate.

How long is the season? Fall runs mid August through end of October. Spring runs mid April through end of May. Each team plays 8 games.

When and where are games played? Saturdays 9am–5pm and Sundays 12–5pm. Recreation program games are played at Clearwater Elementary School or Riverwood Park. Recreation Plus program home games are played at Clearwater Elementary School or Eastwood Middle School. Away games for Recreation Plus program teams are played at locations within a 20 minute drive from Clearwater Elementary School.

What are the age groups? Players ages 4–19 are placed by grade:

  • Recreation: Pre-K/K (U6 Mixed), 1st–2nd grade (U8 Boys & Girls), 3rd–4th grade (U10 Boys& Girls)
  • Recreation Plus: 5th–6th (U12), 7th–8th (U14), High School — teams compete against area clubs and play in an end-of-season tournament.

Can my child play up or down? Playing up or down may be allowed with permission from the Board of Directors. Requests should be made during registration.

Will my child get playing time? Yes. Coaches are directed to divide playing time equally regardless of ability.

What equipment is needed? Shin guards and cleats are required; bring a ball and water bottle to every practice and game. Uniforms (jersey, and socks) are provided. Shorts can be purchased for an extra fee.

Can my child be placed with friends or a specific coach? You can make a request during registration, but it's not guaranteed. We'll do our best.

What about rain-outs? Rain alone doesn't cancel games or practices — coaches and referees assess conditions on-site. Players should report as scheduled. Lightning and thunder is the only automatic cancellation.

Will soccer conflict with other sports? We encourage multi-sport participation. Just let your coach know about conflicts as early as possible.

What are the coaching qualifications? Soccer experience isn't required — attitude matters most! Training resources are available, and a coaches' course is offered each season. All coaches must complete a background check and Safe Sport and Heads Up! training before the season.

What does a team manager do? Team managers help coordinate snack schedules, team communication, and picture day logistics.
